A Pre-Post-Mortem: Why are Voters Turning on Democrats?

Jonah Goldberg offers a pre-post-mortem on how it is, two short years after the voters gave them complete control of the elected government, the Democrats are poised to lose the House. I ask Jonah to give me the main reason voters have turned on Democrats. Possibilities:

1. Voters like progressive ideas in the abstract but not when they are implemented and have to be paid for.
2. It is simply…Obamacare. The Weekly Standard says independents no-likey Obamacare.
3. A viewer emails me this: “moderates are just DUMB.”

Sadly, I think the last analysis is more accurate than anyone wants to admit. I think moderates/independents get suckered into campaign chorus lines like “Hope” and “Change” without asking what we’re changing. (I’ll forgive them if they thought this meant only changing Bush out. But they should’ve known better – because Obama is changing what he said he’d change – America.) I think moderates got seduced by a charming man. I think moderates vote for personality/likeability more than ideas. And it saddens me.
